SUMMARY:GivingTuesday 2023
DESCRIPTION:From the #GivingTuesday website: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“About GivingTuesday”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then\, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give\, collaborate\, and celebrate generosity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the movement and give – each Tuesday and every day – whether it’s some of your time\, a donation\, or the power of your voice in your local community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a simple idea: whether it’s making someone smile\, helping a neighbor or stranger out\, showing up for an issue or people we care about\, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help\, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to contribute toward building the better world we all want to live in.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease Consider Supporting The Patch Works!

SUMMARY:THE 2023 CABBAGETOWN REUNION DAY FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:We wanna prepare y’all for one more event\, even if it isn’t until June… because this event is so darn AWESOME! It’s also one of the longest-running events in Atlanta\, btw. On Saturday\, June 3rd\, y’all need to come on down to Carroll Street and celebrate the Cabbagetown Reunion Day Festival! All folks who’ve made Cabbagetown their home – past residents AND current – are invited to hang out\, listen to live music\, and jaw\, jaw\, jaw… what else are these mouths good for other than jawing??? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe “Vegetable” – which is now firmly older than 50 – was started in the early 70’s by mill-era Cabbagetowners who wanted to keep in touch with friends moving out of the Mill Village. Many still return on this day to keep the friendships burning bright. It’s a day for all past and present residents to rejoice in the people who have spent part of their lives in this unique and wonderful neighborhood. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe music starts at 11:00am and doesn’t stop until 5:00pm. But our love for Cabbagetown lasts forever!

SUMMARY:The Cabbagetown Winter O-Games!
DESCRIPTION:On SATURDAY\, MAY 20TH\, the Cabbagetown O-Games will be returning to the ’Hood\, this time with a delightful winter-fresh theme! Each and every street is invited to compete\, because – as we all know – nothing beats a good ol’ fashioned Street-vs-Street brouhaha! But listen up\, y’all. This next bit is very important\, so please\, please\, PLEASE let the following words sink deeply into yer brains: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach street needs to identify a Street Captain ASAP. Each Street Captain MUST contact The Patch Works by Wednesday\, May 10th. This is extremely important\, because there are rules and a registration link that we need to share before Game Day. Each street needs to have a team name and flag. Plus – if y’all really wanna get jiggy with it– uniforms and a fight song can go a long way in psyching out those other streets! There is a suggested donation of $15 per person. The Patch Works relies on yer generosity to keep up its mission to preserve Cabbagetown history! If y’all have any questions\, CONTACT THE PATCH WORKS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd be prepared to endure the rigorous demands of: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFour-Legged Bobsled FB&CM Ice Fishing Water Bucket Biathlon Relay Race (no sponges allowed) Winter of 2014 Snowpocolypse Brain Freeze Contest Figure Skating for People Who Can’t Figure Out Skating And more!

SUMMARY:Fulton Bag & Cotton Mills GA Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 6th\, The Patch Works invites all y’all to join us on Carroll Street\, right outside the back gate of The Stacks\, for the “ribbon cutting” of The Mill’s very own Georgia Historical State Marker! The Georgia Historical Society has honored us with one of their spiffy markers\, which acknowledges Fulton Bag & Cotton Mills’ lasting impact on Georgia and the United States. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is “rain or shine\,” so please check the weather forecast and prepare accordingly. The schedule is as follows: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:30am – Venue Opens\n\n\n\n10:45am – Live music\n\n\n\n11:30am – Guest Speakers\n\n\n\n12:30pm – Ceremony Ends\n\n\n\n1:00pm – Venue Closes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlthough the ceremony itself begins at 11:30am\, y’all can start showing up at 10:30am to hobnob in the street. (In addition\, the Stacks Squares Mural Project will be happening simultaneously\, so y’all should check out the talented artists at work.) Around 10:45am\, some of our local musicians will break out their instruments and regale y’all with their sweet tunes. And while y’all wait for the ceremony to begin\, feel free to head down to Milltown Tavern\, JenChan’s\, and Carroll Street Cafe and pick up something to eat and drink. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt 11:30am\, Guest Speakers will approach the podium and talk about Jacob Elsas and Fulton Bag & Cotton Mills\, historic preservation\, Georgia history\, Atlanta history\, and our beloved community. Guest Speakers are:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Mitchell\, Executive Director of the Atlanta Preservation Center; Atlanta City Councilmember Liliana Bakhtiari; Elyse Butler from the Georgia Historical Society; Sanna Root from The Mill community; Alan Elsas\, who spearheaded the effort to obtain the marker; Hugh Asher\, who will represent his father\, the late Thomas Asher\, who provided essential research for the marker application but sadly passed away at the end of December 2022. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe ceremony will take about an hour\, after which y’all should definitely check out the muralists. And celebrate further at one of our local\, fine-dining establishments! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Carroll Street and Tennelle Street will be closed to traffic from Shelton Street to Powell Street\, so please consider taking an alternative mode of transportation to the event. If driving\, you may park in Agave Restaurant’s parking lot (off of Boulevard) until 3:30pm. Please park to the right side of the lot and away from the restaurant itself\, so as not to obstruct delivery vehicles. The address is 242 Boulevard SE Atlanta\, Georgia 30312.
